Golf is considered to be a historic sport of which the precise beginnings are indistinctive. The derivation of golf is debated.  Yet, the most conventional history of golf theory is that the sport instigated from Scotland in the year 1100s.

Listed below are the timelines and modernizations of and golf throughout the years.

1300s-1500s

The former name of golf is chole in which it happened between the years of 1353-1354. Golf is derived from the sports hockey that took part in Flanders. In the year 1421, chole was introduced by the Scottish brigade at Seige of Bauge.
Later in the year 1457, gowf (called by the people in British Isles) was banned in the Parliamentary Government of Scotland under James II and later confirmed by James III and James IV in the years 1470 and 1401.

1500s-1600s

The Treaty of Glasgow linking Scotland and England was responsible for lifting golf from its banned. In fact, James IV was the first individual who bought equipments of golf and clubs in Perth.

During the 1513 in England, the golf was then become popular through the letters of Queen Catherine to Cardinal Wolsey. On the other hand, feathery ball was invented in the year 1618. Also during that period, King James I (England) and VI (Scotland) reaffirms the right of his people to engage their selves in the recreational sport during Sundays.

In the year 1642, John Dickson acquired the license of being ball-creator for Aberdeen. Also, in the late years of 1600s, particularly in the year 1682, the very first recording for international golf competition was then conducted. John Paterstone and Duke of York of Scotland beat two English men in Leith.

1700s-1800s

Meanwhile, the ever first reported golf matched in a tabloid was then recorded in the year 1724. The solemn matched was between Captain John Porteous and Alexander Elphinstone in which Elphinstone won the competition.

Leith is considered to be the first golf clubhouse in the year 1744. In the year 1768, Silver Cup for golf winners is established and John Rattray is the first champion in the competition.

In the early years of 1800 specifically in the year 1810, the ever first golf competition in women’s division in Musselburgh was recorded. The North Berwick Club was the first to take account of women in the golf activities, even though at that point in time, women are not allowed to participate in any competitions.

In 1848, the invention of the gutta-percha ball or the guttie was recorded. The guttie reaches farther than the feathery balls and less cost-effective. It added very much to the development of golf game.

1900s- Present

Then first US Open was then recorded in the year 1900 where Harry Vardon won the first competition. Eventually, the golf game was then recognized as one of the sports in Olympics.  Also, during the 1900s, the invention of the very first grooved-faced irons was accounted. The Rules of Golf was also established in the same period. Due to its popularity, the golf game spreads worldwide and numerous golf clubs is then formed until the present time.

In the year 2000, the golf game celebrated its 100th anniversary particularly of the U.S. Women's Amateur, U.S. Amateur, and the well-known US Open. And one of the best golfers in the century is no other than Tiger Woods.

In summary, despite of the difficulties and challenges of the Golf in the history, still it became successful throughout the years.
